Happy Halloween from the Daily Planet

On me:
J.Crew silk blouse
Esprit pencil skirt (similar)
On him:
Marc by Marc Jacobs tweed blazer (similar)
Uniqlo oxford shirt (similar)
Wings + Horns pants

Husband and I took the economical (and lazy) route on our costumes this year and dressed up as Clark Kent and Lois Lane. He printed me off a Daily Planet press pass and a Superman logo for himself, and we put together outfits we already had in our closet. Easy costumes for a chill gathering with friends this past weekend. What did you dress up as? Have a happy Halloween! :)

Yellow Leaf Road

Zara sweater (similar)
Acne wool skirt (similar)
Dries Van Noten boots (similar)
Marc by Marc Jacobs wallet (similar)

Being part of the blogsphere can be disorienting when it comes to the weather. I'm still seeing cutoff shorts on the web even though it's been pouring rain outside and barelegged summer seemed like lightyears ago. But we've got these gorgeous yellowing trees around our neighborhood that make me happy that we get to experience the four seasons here in Seattle. Plus, I'm also ready for the cold -- I stocked up on Plush fleece-lined tights as soon as the temperatures started dropping, they are amazing.

Off Duty

J. Crew denim jacket (similar)
Uniqlo gingham shirt (similar)
Forever 21 ripped jeans (similar)
80&20 booties (similar)
Marc by Marc Jacobs shoulder bag

I'm dressed up for work everyday of the week, so by the weekend, I'm more than ready to just veg in something comfy. In this case, mindless dressing also channeled my inner angsty tweenager I guess.

Brass Knuckles

Wilfred cutout dress worn as top (similar)
Rag & Bone leather inset skirt (similar)
Zara lucite heel pumps (similar)
Alexander McQueen knuckle clutch (similar)

I hope the title doesn't lead a bunch of weird hits to my blog (sorry to disappoint the people actually in search of brass knuckles). It's just that the McQueen knuckle clutch always gives me a heightened sense of safety whenever I wear it out. Finally, a fashion item beyond the obvious spike-heeled stiletto that doubles up as a self-defense weapon just in case the night takes a turn for the crazy. Always remember utility, ladies.. On that note, have a fun Friday night!

The Wandering Goose - Seattle, WA

We went to The Wandering Goose on opening night for Friday evening Southern family-styled supper.

All the tables had different quotes burned into them. Loved the idea!

The Wandering Goose shares a window-wall with Rione XIII, a rustic Italian Ethan Stowell restaurant I posted about here.

Sweet potato soup with kale chips and creme fraiche, so comforting on a crisp fall night. I also need to make my own kale chips! Addicting.

Arugula and mizuna with candied pecans.

I heard The Wandering Goose is known for their buttermilk biscuits during brunch, so when they passed around a basket full of them I was so happy. The biscuits were amazing!

Roasted vegetables.

The BBQ brisket had a sweet but spicy kick, and the chicken was smokey with perfectly crisped skin.

The meal ended with bourbon pecan pie. I was so full but this was too delicious to not devour.

A pretty quote I spotted on the ground on our way out.

Our Engagement: Photos (Part 3)

On me:
BCBGMaxAzria dress (similar)
Rupert Sanderson python heels (similar)
On him:
Paul Smith suit
Shipley & Halmos shirt
Prada shoes

Photography by Benj Haisch
Makeup by Yeji Kim Sakoda

This is the last photo set of our engagement session (here are posts one and two) and it really captured the vision we had. We wanted the editorial look of being abnormally dressed up in an utterly desolate location, but had no places in mind. So we packed up some fancy clothes and drove east for hours with our photographer. With a crazy stroke of luck, we passed by this quarry after hours, and the piles of rock, gravel, distant windmills, and setting sun made an epic backdrop. Definitely worth limboing through a bunch of barbed wire fences to get to...

You can see the other parts of our wedding process here: the Engagement, Wedding DIYour Save the Dates, our Engagement VideoWedding Cake TastingBridal Shower, and Rehearsal Dinner dress. More details to come!

Do you think about me still?

J.Crew denim jacket (similar) and striped dress
H&M infinity scarf (similar)
Topshop boots
CĂ©line sunglasses
Marc by Marc Jacobs shoulder bag

Finally pulled the trigger on a denim jacket! I've been proving that it's a worthy investment by wearing it all. the. time. Anyway, running across sweet phrases while walking is one of those romantic things that make me stop and smile -- especially this one that got the song by Frank Ocean stuck in my head.

Americana - Seattle, WA

A while ago, we visited Americana, a recently opened gastropub in our neighborhood.

Free bowl of truffle popcorn to start! This meal is getting off on the right foot.

Tomato bisque with grilled cheese croutons -- genius idea. Must make this now that it's transitioning to fall and soup is oh so good on chilly evenings.

Duck confit nachos.

Truffle (I can never have too much) mac and cheese with chantrelle mushrooms in a cute mini cast iron pot. Another item that I'm going to try my hand at in my kitchen.

Pork belly with cornmeal griddle cakes, always the perfect balance of sweet and savory.
