TanakaSan – Seattle, WA

Eric Tanaka, a partner of Tom Douglas restaurants, recently opened TanakaSan, serving modern American Asian fare. The space is roomy and bright, and shares the downstairs of Via6 apartments with a few cute shops and gourmet grocery.

Ruby Red sake slushie.

Grilled Rice Cakes with toasted seaweed and sweet soy.

Grilled Octopus with smoked bacon.

Twice Fried Chicken with a split serving of kimchee and smoked chili, and salty carmel with serranos and garlic — we enjoyed the latter flavor more, and what’s not to love about anything being fried not just once, but twice?!

Tanakasan Ramen with pork belly, green apple, smoked miso, and soft-boiled egg in shoyu broth.

Light and silky coconut milk Panna Cotta with smoked cherry soup and candied flowers.
