What to Wear to a (Semi-Formal) Wedding

For Love and Lemons dress
Chloé sandals
Moorea Seal thin gold rings

I wore this to the first wedding of the summer that we attended this past weekend. While I typically like dark clothing, I always gravitate toward bright colors when it comes to dresses. I think it’s because my mom used to say that dresses are for celebratory occasions and thus should be festive. I’ve been in love with the label For Love and Lemons for their fun, flirty designs, and this dress is one of my favorites. The fluttery silhouette, mini hemline, and low back make it perfect for a semi-formal or outdoor wedding, and I foresee myself throwing it on as a no-brainer for date nights too. Since the hem of this dress is higher, I kept heels low for balance. To let the dress speak for itself, I simplified the accessories to a few gold accents.

For brides, the white version of this dress would be so cute for a bridal shower. For other ideas of what to wear to a bridal shower, check out my post here.

I've never heard of that dress label before, but I think that needs to change because that dress is stunning. So true what your mom said! Lovely look for a wedding.

Without a shadow of a doubt, this is my favourite look of today! The colour of the dress works perfectly with your hair and the Chloe sandals are to die for (and remind me of some Jimmy Choo metallic block heel sandals I've had my eye on for a while now)!

I'm completely the same! I could have a full closet of black but like you I occasionally like to mix it up with a pop of colour- great choice for a wedding : )

Such a cute, youthful outfit! If you're at a wedding with a more conservative crowd, do you have any suggestions on how to cover up the low back without overheating?

    • July 16, 2014 / 6:29 pm

In a more conservative crowd, I would choose a different dress – probably sheath/column, shift, or wrap dress. This For Love and Lemons dress is flirty with the low back, so wear it on a fun night out instead. If you do want to wear it with a cover and not overheat, I would suggest an unlined silk or linen blazer or wrap. Thanks for your question!
