Other than super casually playing basketball and volleyball in middle school and running track in high school, I didn’t develop much of a workout regime until after college. Now that I’m older, I want to lead a heathy, active lifestyle. To be honest I don’t love working out, but I’ve found activities that I do enjoy (and a cute workout outfit helps too).
I’ve used ClassPass for over 3 years, and I love it because I can switch up my workouts with different studios and not get bored. I work out 2 times a week (3 if I’m feeling ambitious), and I alternate between these types of workouts:
Barre – Barre is inspired by pilates and ballet postures, and it combines high reps of small range movements with optional weights. I go to Barre3 if I want a light yet effective workout and Pure Barre if I want to be kicked in the butt.
Indoor Cycling – I do cardio once a week through spin classes. My favorite studio is Flywheel — the instructors are motivating, and I like being able to track my data, which pushes me to improve. If I want a fun, music-centric spin environment, I go to SoulCycle as they focus much less on numbers. We bought this stationary bike a few months ago and subscribed to Peloton’s virtual classes, and sometimes I hop on for a quick ride at home.
Hot Yoga – I make sure to stretch and stay flexible with hot yoga. CorePower Yoga is my favorite studio because the classes are standardized and I know what to expect. I do Level 1.5 on days when my muscles are tired and I just want to mediate and stretch. My usual class is Level 2, which I find to be the perfect heat and difficulty for me. When I want to detox, I go to Fusion, because it’s so hot and focuses more on twisting and holding poses.
Nice workout clothes definitely help motivate me, but I also invest in quality pieces because I wear them all the time, even when I’m not working out. I change into workout clothes the moment I get home from work or anytime I’m lounging around.
Tops – My cycling and barre sports bras are from Nike and my hot yoga ones are from Lululemon. Most of my workout tank tops and tees are from Lululemon or Zella. I have sweatshirts and zip-ups from Nike, Lululemon, Madewell (here is a similar sweatshirt to what I’m wearing in this post), and The North Face.
Pants – I own the Lululemon Wonder Under tights in every length (full length, mid, and cropped) and in multiple colors. The fabric is full coverage but it’s still breathable enough for all of the activities I do. I recently bought Outdoor Voices leggings (I’m wearing their 7/8 Springs Legging in this post — they fit true to size) because they have really cool designs. These ones are great for hiking (in cooler temps) and barre. Shop more cute workout pants here!
Accessories – Apolis gifted me their Standard Wine Tote, which I customized with my initials “CYM”. The bag is made by female artisans with fair wages. It’s waterproof and holds up to 135 lbs, and my favorite part is the two interior wine bottle pockets, which fit a yoga mat and water bottle. I also keep Nike headbands, yoga towels, and disposable foam earplugs (sometimes the spin classes blast the music a little too loudly haha) in this tote.
I’d love to discover more awesome workouts and workout clothes! What kinds of workouts do you do? Which workout brands do you love? Where do you shop for workout clothes?
