It’s been an odd time, to say the very least. I work for a school district, and in the last week, we went from continuing school like normal, to closing schools short-term for two weeks when COVID-19 was finally declared a pandemic in the US, to closing long-term for up to five weeks and rushing to implement online learning. All the trips, concerts, and plans I had in the next two months were canceled. I’ve had to practice non-attachment and every self-care strategy to stay at peace in this helpless uncertainty. I’m just thankful for health and loved ones right now. I hope you continue to keep safe as well!

We took these photos only a couple weeks ago, but wearing a hat that says “Livin’ Easy” made sense then. While that level of chill seemed like a dream ago, I have faith that we’ll make it through this time and return to normalcy again. Take precautions, stay in, wash your hands, hold loved ones dear, and hang in there!
Here are some of my self-care strategies during this time that have helped me the most:
- Practicing non-attachment to manage disappointments. Allowing myself to mourn losses and changes of plans, but then moving on and maintaining a heart of gratitude.
- Being proactive and preparing to stay indoors for weeks by stocking up on necessary items, but also not hoarding.
- Self-talking with the facts and managing my emotions so I don’t veer into catastrophic thinking.
How are you coping?
