Since we were in Las Vegas to celebrate my husband’s birthday, we decided to add a day trip to Valley of Fire State Park nearby. It’s definitely major personal growth that we were able to hike the day after a night out in Vegas haha, but the stunning views made me feel better immediately!
1-2pm: We slept in due to going out the night before and met at Eggslut in The Cosmopolitan for lunch to fuel up before the hike.
2-3pm: Valley of Fire is only an hour away from Vegas and totally worth the trip!
3-5pm: Since we didn’t have long at the state park, we decided on the 7 Wonders Loop that includes Fire Wave, Kaolin Slot Canyon, and White Domes Trail.
The Loop is about 4 miles and moderate in difficulty. It was one of the most beautiful hikes ever! All the views were seriously otherworldly. At one point we saw a whole family of mountain goats cross in front of us! There was so much to see at this state park, so if you have more time in Vegas, you could definitely explore more sights.
What to Pack
We went at the end of October so the weather was really mild. Please be careful if you’re going during a time when the temperatures are much hotter!
- I started off in a zip up hoodie, but then shed the layer to just be in a short-sleeve tee when it got warm
- I wore Nike Pegasus sneakers and it was fine, but the trail is pretty rocky so hiking boots that protect your ankle would be a better idea
- Hat to keep the sun off your face, sunglasses, and sunscreen
- A flexible water bottle to stay hydrated
