Hello! I’m Carolyn Yuen Marino.
Hey Pretty Thing celebrates the “pretty things” in life, whether that comes in the form of wearing a fun top, being engrossed in a good conversation, or traveling to a new city!
In addition to blogging, I work full-time as a high school educator. For undergrad, I majored in English, and I also received my Master in Teaching from the University of Washington. I love that my career combines my passions of language and social justice with the empowerment of young people.
Last year, I created and wrote Sweet & Power, a comedy-drama web series that follows the journey of four Asian-American millennial women as they navigate their 20s. The show covers a variety of topics including career, cultural identity, friendships, and sexuality.
I was born in Hong Kong, and I speak three dialects of Chinese (Shanghainese, Mandarin, and Cantonese). Currently, I live in Seattle, Washington with my Husband. Here is my City Guide for Seattle.
Thank you for reading!
Who takes your photos?
My husband.
What kind of camera + gear do you use?
My husband shoots with a Sony a7R III and the Zeiss 55mm F1.8 lens and the Zeiss 35mm F2.8 lens.
We used to shoot with a Canon 6D and Canon 85L + Canon 35L lens and the Sony a7 when we traveled, and we’d still recommend those cameras and lenses!
How do you edit your pictures?
I use Adobe Photoshop CC on my laptop, and Snapseed and VSCO on my iPhone.
