Hello! I’m Carolyn Yuen Marino.
Hey Pretty Thing celebrates the “pretty things” in life, whether that comes in the form of wearing a fun top, being engrossed in a good conversation, or traveling to a new city!
In addition to blogging, I work full-time as a high school educator. For undergrad, I majored in English, and I also received my Master in Teaching from the University of Washington. I love that my career combines my passions of language and social justice with the empowerment of young people.
I created and wrote Sweet & Power, a comedy-drama web series that follows the journey of four Asian-American millennial women as they navigate their 20s. The show covers a variety of topics including career, cultural identity, friendships, and sexuality.
I was born in Hong Kong, and I speak three dialects of Chinese (Shanghainese, Mandarin, and Cantonese). Currently, I live in Seattle, Washington with my Husband and our daughter. Here is my City Guide for Seattle.
Thank you for reading!
Who takes your photos?
My husband.
What kind of camera + gear do you use?
My husband shoots with a Sony a7R III and the Zeiss 55mm F1.8 lens and the Zeiss 35mm F2.8 lens.
We used to shoot with a Canon 6D and Canon 85L + Canon 35L lens and the Sony a7 when we traveled, and we’d still recommend those cameras and lenses!
How do you edit your pictures?
I use Adobe Photoshop CC on my laptop, and Snapseed and VSCO on my iPhone.
